Position Title:  Public Safety Officer – Part time

Department:  Security

Supervisor:  Director of Operations

Supervises:   0

Position Status:  Hourly ($11.00 per hr)

Job Classification:  Non-exempt

In compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is classified as a non-exempt position and the employee is eligible for overtime.


Maintains security and ensures safety of people and property within the facility.  Enforces the rules and regulations as set forth by the organization.  Communicates with staff on a regular basis, and performs other duties as assigned and works as a team player at all times.

Saturday & Sunday – 4:00 p.m. – 12:00 p.m. generally, with flexibility to work other shifts



Must be at least 21 years of age or older and a United States citizen

Must have a high school diploma or GED, or at least 10 years of verifiable employment history

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in the English language for the purpose of public interaction and report writing

Ability to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation

Position Title:                  Community Outreach and Event Coordinator

Position Status:               Full-Time Position

Job Classification:          Non-Exempt


In compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is classified as a non-exempt position and the employee is eligible for overtime. 



 The Community Outreach and Event Coordinator will engage individuals, neighborhoods, businesses, companies, governments, and faith groups to involve them in Transitions.  The Coordinator develops a plan to engage the community across a wide spectrum of meetings, activities, and communications.  The Coordinator is responsible for social media activity and postings, and soliciting needed services and items that will benefit Transitions programs.  The Coordinator will take the lead in planning and coordinating certain events, and will support the Vice President, event steering committee and board with regard to logistics for other events.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities related to Event Coordination

  •  Manage the details of the annual Volunteer Leader Awards Luncheon and the volunteer appreciation breakfast. Secure vendors and sponsors for these events.
  •   Identify opportunities for Percent Night type events that will generate funds for Transitions.  Promote and attend these events.
  •  Assist with recruiting Steering Committee members for Reconstructing Home and identifying volunteers who would be interested in expanding their involvement with    Transitions, through serving on a planning committee. Provide administrative and logistical support to the committee and board as it relates to our major events.
  •  Design and disseminate marketing materials related to the events, (sponsor packages, Save the Date cards, social media posts and media), help secure participation by  restaurants/vendors/in-kind sponsors and corporate as well as individual sponsors, track and monitor sponsorship responses, assist with securing auction items.
  •  Handle paperwork related to securing event, liquor and raffle licenses
  •  Manage development of volunteer assignments for events and ensuring staff and volunteers are on board and trained as needed for each event and manage the volunteers at events.
  •  Oversee holiday activities at the Center and the scheduling of volunteer groups to provide special events and activities. Secure local media to cover such events and help  develop news stories that can be provided to the local media, to provide positive press coverage of the work of Transitions,
  •  Provide Vice President with status reports related to budgets and logistics of events, and provide support and help with making contacts for new funding and  sponsorships, coordinate with Development and Volunteer Administrator on invoicing for events, pictures for use on the website and event sites, and stories related to  volunteer activities that can be used on the website or in our quarterly newsletter
  •  Compile logos from sponsors, release forms for photos and artwork and production of tracking reports as needed for event planning
  •  Work with Development and Volunteer Administrator on Midlands Gives Day activities and attend events as needed to oversee volunteer activities and as part of  community outreach efforts.
  •  Have valid state driver’s license


 Essential Duties and Responsibilities re to Volunteer Coordination and Community Outreach

  • Plan the volunteer programs and services.  Recruit the volunteers, conduct initial briefings, screenings, orientations, and supervise the volunteer work projects. Work with case management staff to identify volunteer needs for classes, class materials, etc. and provide help in meeting those needs through securing volunteers to work with case management staff. 
  • Identify and work with the Vice President of Advancement to pursue ways to take an initial volunteer engagement and grow it into fuller and deeper support of Transitions, including potential grant or sponsorship funding 
  •  Work to improve collection of volunteer contact information and identification of corporate matches and gifts to organizations with which employee’s volunteer 
  • Write volunteer position descriptions in consultation with staff as appropriate, so volunteers know what to do.  Review volunteer applications received and handle follow-up as appropriate 
  •  Train staff to work effectively and cooperatively with volunteers.  Deal with any volunteer issue on conduct or service with regards to staff or clients. 
  •  Maintain and update volunteer brochures, volunteer handbook, and postings of volunteer and in-kind support needs on social media and provides to  website manager for update of the website 
  •  Coordinate Faith Committee efforts with appropriate Board Members. 
  •  Coordinate and pursue speaking engagements with churches and other organizations in efforts to encourage volunteer participation. 
  •  Coordinate with United Way to solicit volunteers to work at the IWC (November-March) and manage the Eventbrite website for accuracy and updates.



  •  Bachelor’s Degree and related community and volunteer experience. 
  •  Energetic and motivated personality with the ability to plan volunteer events and track activities. 
  • Must have a very flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends, as needed. 
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle multiple projects and meet deadlines, while remaining calm and in control, is key
  • Must be able to work independently; exercise sound judgment;
  • Experience with excel and word software
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.  Experience with eTapestry, Bidr, Adobe In-Design, Canva, and other graphics software, is a plus.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members.
  • Able to influence people, faith groups, companies, and other organizations to donate items and volunteer their time.
  • must possess a valid SC driver’s license.
