Thank you for signing up to volunteer with Transitions. Volunteers are requested to attend a tour of Transitions and meet with the Volunteer Coordinator for orientation. Orientations are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month at 4pm, and 2nd and 4th Wednesdays at 11am. Email Margaret Deans at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Kitchen Services: Assist with serving meals to clients weekdays and weekends.

Qualifications: Patience and a smiling face (Great for groups). Please wear closed toe shoes and a shirt or dress with sleeves. Hair nets, plastic gloves and a plastic apron will be provided by Transitions.

Breakfast- 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM

Lunch- 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM

Dinner- 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM

Mentor/ Life Coach: Serve as a mentor and positive  role  model for our clients.  Mentors help clients understand workplace expectations, prepare for interviews, explore job paths they may not have considered, and in general, serve as a friend and advocate for the client. There is nothing more powerful than knowing you have someone cheering for you, and that is exactly what the role of mentor offers to clients who are seriously looking to overcome their challenges and anxious to move forward with a better life. This volunteer opportunity offers a great deal of flexibility in terms of when a mentor meets with the client, and the types of activities they may share. 

* Time commitment of at least one hour a week

Library Volunteer: Assist clients in the library with checking out books and magazines. Provide help with web searches for job postings and completing on-line job applications.

Qualifications: patience, a smiling face and a willingness to help.

9 AM to 12 PM or 1PM-4PM

Front Desk Assistant: Assist Clients with service requests, answer telephone, give general information and referrals. Weekdays only.

Qualifications: Patience, good communication skills, ability to remain calm under stressful circumstances. 

12:00 PM to 2:00 PM

Day Center Desk Assistant: Assist the Day Center manager with client requests, handing out towels and toiletries, and registering clients.

Qualifications: Patience, good communication skills, ability to remain calm under stressful circumstances. 

 Every day from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Day Center Daytime Activities: Assist the Day Center managers with daytime activities such as: outdoor games, talent shows, dance contests and many more (Great for groups).

Any night of the week from 6:30 to 8:00 PM

Things to do:

Game Night (ie. Bingo, etc), Musical Concert or Performance; Dramatic Plays or Skits; Dance Group Cookout (Fourth of July theme); Manicures, Facials, Haircuts; Carnivals or Festival Movie Nights; Motivational Speakers; Spoken Word Artist Mime Group; Vocalists

Computer Lab Monitor/Assistant: Assist clients in the computer lab with job applications, housing applications, and resume preparation.

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Group Activities:

Outside group activities are available when needed. Please ask about these opportunities.

* Community Service:  We offer court ordered community service for people who have 30 hours or less to complete. Please understand we can only accommodate 1 or 2 community service applications a week. Please call ahead of time to see if community service opportunities are available.
