Faith community

The Transitions Faith Committee is asking that all area churches give special emphasis to supporting Transitions during 2017. We hope that each church will address the homelessness issue and encourage support through newsletters, bulletins, and the pulpit to urge a generous response. During this time, we would be happy to come speak to your congregation about homelessness in the Midlands and what your church can do to help. Some ideas are below:

Designate Transitions as a recipient of your Souper Bowl of Caring effort.  Food is needed to stock the shelves in our kitchen to ensure that homeless men and women will have enough to eat during the rough winter months. Transitions serves an average of 780 meals a day to people that would otherwise go without. Your Souper Bowl of Caring contribution will have a huge impact on the homeless that we serve.

Use our Church Bulletin Insert to generate concern about homelessness in our community and have a collection for Transitions. Cash contributions can be very significant in changing the lives of the homelessness. These donations allow Transitions to purchase much needed food and supplies, and provide valuable services to our clients all year round. Cash or checks made payable to Transitions can be placed in your church offering plate or made online at TransitionsSC.org. The bulletin is also offered on our website at http://transitionssc.org/help/faith-community.

Volunteering is another valuable resource to Transitions. Every hour of volunteering saves Transitions an average of $14 that will be used to help individuals move off the streets and into permanent housing.  Volunteering is also a great way to get involved and provide hands-on services to those in need.

If you have any questions or would like a representative from Transitions to speak at your church, please contact Elizabeth Igleheart at 803-708-4861 ext. 207. Thank you for caring!
