THE BOB & JEWELL HILL ENDOWMENT
A legacy of compassion. A future of possibility.
Built with the Hill family to carry Bob and Jewell’s lifelong commitment to service forward — for every person who will walk through Transitions' doors, for generations to come.
MEET THE HILLS
Bob and Jewell were there before Transitions was Transitions.
When the Midlands Housing Alliance came together in 2008 to address homelessness in Columbia, Bob stepped up to serve as the organization's first CEO — lending his leadership, his credibility, and his name to a mission that was just finding its footing.
But Bob's story didn't begin or end with Transitions. An Eagle Scout, a public educator, a coach, a principal, South Carolina's Deputy State Superintendent of Education, and a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves over 30 years of service — he lived by the motto Dum Vivimus Servimus: "While We Live, We Serve."
Much of Bob's compassion — especially for those experiencing homelessness — began at home, often around the kitchen table he shared with Jewell. She was an integral part of that legacy. Together, they represented something that has always been at the heart of Transitions: the belief that a community takes care of its own.
"Much of Bob's compassion began in their home, often around the kitchen table. Jewell was an integral part of that legacy."
—Robert Hill, Jr.
THEIR LEGACY
Established in 2025.
Built to last forever.
Bob passed away in 2023, but his commitment to ending homelessness in the Midlands lives on in the endowment that bears his name and Jewell's — established in partnership with the Hill family in 2025 and stewarded through the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
The Bob & Jewell Hill Endowment was created to ensure that Transitions has a stable financial foundation for the long term, so that no matter what challenges arise, the doors stay open and the work continues.
